Lindsay Marshall wins ACSUS-Enders Graduate Fellowship for 2016

It is a pleasure to announce that Ms. Lindsay Marshall, a PhD candidate in English at the University of Illinois at Chicago has been awarded the ACSUS-Enders Graduate Fellowship in Canada-US Relations to support her proposed research entitled "Recovering Rhetoric: Addiction and Rehabilitation at the Limits of Disease Discourse."  With the support of the fellowship, Ms. Marshall will conduct ethnographic field research among participants in Heroine-Assisted Treatment program in Vancouver's Downtown East Side (DTES) during the Fall of 2016.  Her work aims to better understand the theoretical frameworks that have contributed to the belief that addition is a disease and how these dispositions have contributed to the emergence of a set of institutions aimed at treating the disease.  In so doing, her work will undoubetedly help us understand and respond to one of the most pressing public health problems confronting both Canada and the US - opioid dependency.
